In Gary Baseman's universe, a macabre-yet-cute aesthetic brings a bittersweet vibe to illustration, paintings and performance pieces – even to "Teacher's Pet", his BAFTA-award winning animated show for ABC/Disney. It's a distinctive and unmatched – much like a pair of Doc Martens boots. Which is why the iconic 1460 8-eye men's boot is a perfect canvas for a Baseman x Dr. Martens collaboration. In honor of 40 years of punk – and Dr. Martens – this boot features a bespoke punk version of Toby, Baseman's alter ego, including a Mohawk and his own pair of Docs.
Selections from Baseman's designs are digitally printed onto Dr. Martens' Backhand leather. There's no binding on the collars. It's got Dr. Martens simple yellow welt stitch, which ensures the main focus in on the artwork. The Pascal Baseman is constructed on the iconic AirWair bouncing sole, that's oil-and-fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance – and has been since 1960. Finally, this boot is Goodyear-welted, meaning the upper and sole are sewn together in heat-sealed z-welt stitch for enhanced comfort.
